NPTEL

NPTEL – National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning

NPTEL is an MHRD-sponsored initiative to make world-class engineering and science education available on an IT platform to students, faculty, researchers, scientists, and industry professionals across India and the globe. It is a joint collaboration of the seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee) and IISc Bangalore.

MIETW is an NPTEL Local Chapter, enabling students to access courses, appear for proctored examinations at discounted fees, and earn certifications that are recognised for credit transfer under the CBCS framework.

About NPTEL

  • NPTEL began by recording lecture videos from eminent faculty of IITs and IISc covering major engineering disciplines.
  • Initially focused on core engineering subjects with PDF study materials; expanded to full online courses since 2014.
  • Courses are offered in two semesters — January–April and July–November — with new courses added every term.
  • Registration for course content is free. A nominal exam fee of ₹1,000 per course applies for the proctored certification exam.
  • NPTEL Local Chapter members (like MIETW) receive a fee waiver: ₹500 for general category and ₹750 for SC/ST candidates.
  • Courses include live interactions, weekly assignments, discussion forums, and proctored end-term examinations.

NPTEL Local Chapter at MIETW

MIETW holds the status of an NPTEL Local Chapter, which means:

  • Students benefit from reduced exam fees (₹500 / ₹750) instead of the standard ₹1,000.
  • The institution has a dedicated NPTEL Spoc (Single Point of Contact) who manages registrations, coordinates with IIT Madras, and facilitates proctored exam logistics.
  • NPTEL certificates earned by MIETW students are eligible for credit transfer into the CBCS curriculum as per JNTUH Autonomous regulations.
  • Toppers and high performers are recognised at the NPTEL Star Awards and the college's Annual Academic Awards Ceremony.

How to Enrol in an NPTEL Course

  1. Visit nptel.ac.in or swayam.gov.in and create a free account using your college email ID.
  2. Browse courses by discipline, IIT, or keyword and enrol before the registration deadline.
  3. Access weekly video lectures, reading material, and assignments at your own pace.
  4. Complete all weekly assignments (contribute 25% to final score).
  5. Register for the proctored end-term exam through the NPTEL portal and pay the applicable fee (discounted for MIETW Local Chapter members).
  6. Appear for the exam at the designated exam centre (NTA-managed; centres available in Hyderabad).
  7. Receive your certificate if you score 40% or above in the combined assessment.
  8. Submit the certificate to the Examination Branch and your Head of Department for credit transfer processing.
