About - NPTEL

NPTEL is an MHRD sponsored body to make available the Engineering knowledge on IT platform to all the eager students, faculty, researchers, scientists, industrialists etc global wide. With that initiative all the old IITs (7 no.) and IISc, Bangalore have jointly started recording the spoken materials from the eminent faculty of IITs and IISc on the recent updates in the respective domains/specializations. In the beginning only the major courses of engineering were recorded/pdf materials are prepared.

Later on to further improve the understanding of the participants on the subjects, to make more live interactions with the instructors of the subjects for clarification of the doubts and queries on the subject by the listeners/viewers of the courses, NPTEL started offering the online courses since 2014 with meagre exam fee of Rs. 1000 per course but registration is free for any number of courses to receive the materials freely. Every year the number of participants are increasing in these NPTEL Online Courses Certification (NOCs). For further giving more benefits/advantages to the serious participants, NPTEL started giving the local chapter status to the engineering colleges, universities, institutes etc in India so that all the serious participants from the those institutes can avail the final exam fee waiver of Rs. 500 for general category and Rs. 750 for SC/ST category participants.
