SWAYAM

SWAYAM – Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds

SWAYAM is the Government of India's flagship online education platform, launched by the Ministry of Education under the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). It provides free, high-quality online courses from Class 9 to postgraduate level, taught by the best teachers from India's top institutions — IITs, IIMs, Central Universities, and NITs.

MIETW actively encourages students to enrol in SWAYAM courses as part of their academic progression. Credits earned through SWAYAM are recognized and integrated into the CBCS curriculum as per JNTUH and UGC guidelines.

How SWAYAM Works

  1. Register — Create a free account at swayam.gov.in using your college email ID.
  2. Enrol in a Course — Browse courses by subject, discipline, or institution and enrol before the registration deadline.
  3. Learn at Your Own Pace — Access video lectures, reading material, assignments, and discussion forums anytime.
  4. Complete Assignments — Weekly assignments and quizzes contribute 25% to the final score (in-course assessment).
  5. Appear for Proctored Exam — Register and appear for the proctored examination at a designated exam centre (conducted by NTA). Fee: ₹1,000 per course (approx.).
  6. Get Certificate — Students scoring 40% or above in the proctored exam receive a certificate from the course-providing institution.
  7. Apply for Credit Transfer — Submit the certificate to the Examination Branch for credit transfer into your academic record as per JNTUH / UGC norms.

Credit Transfer Policy at MIETW

  • Students can earn up to 2 credits per SWAYAM course (varies by course — check the course page for credit details).
  • Credits are transferred only upon submission of the SWAYAM certificate (not just the completion certificate — the proctored exam certificate is required).
  • Courses must be relevant to the student's programme / elective structure. Students must seek approval from the Head of Department before enrolling for credit transfer purposes.
  • Credits transferred from SWAYAM will appear in the grade card as per JNTUH Autonomous regulations.
  • Deadline to submit certificates for a given semester: last working day of that semester.

  • Exam dates are announced on the SWAYAM portal — typically in January (for July–Nov courses) and June (for Jan–Apr courses).
  • Students must register separately for the proctored exam on the SWAYAM portal after completing the course.
  • The exam is conducted in a supervised computer-based mode with webcam proctoring.
  • Minimum passing score: 40% in the proctored exam (after combining with in-course assessment).

Student Support at MIETW

  • Each department has a designated SWAYAM / NPTEL coordinator who assists students with course selection, registration, and credit transfer.
  • MIETW provides dedicated lab time and internet access for students to attend SWAYAM courses during free periods.
  • Students who complete SWAYAM certifications are recognised at the annual Academic Awards Ceremony.
  • For queries, contact your department SWAYAM coordinator or the Academic Section.
